Friends Who Read- 2020 Reading Challenge

In 2017 I set a goal for myself to read at least one book each month.  I achieved that goal and enjoyed doing so, but I haven’t set any type of reading goal for myself since.

I love reading and during breaks from school I’m awesome at reading, but during the school year I have a hard time finding time to read.  Since I enjoy reading but don’t read as much as I would like to I decided to set a reading goal for myself for 2020.  Enter the Friends Who Read 2020 Reading Challenge.

When I saw this challenge on Instagram I was excited because it’s similar to my 2017 goal of reading  at least one book each month, but it’s more structured while still providing variety. I couldn’t wait to get started!

Instagram is great tool to hold myself accountable throughout this challenge, but I thought it would be fun to come here each month too and share about the books I read.  I plan update this blog post every month to share what I read and my thoughts, but no spoilers. Promise!

January 2020- Historical Fiction- The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
Historical Fiction is probably my least favorite genre so to make this month {and the start of this challenge} a little more enjoyable I decided to read a young adult historical fiction book.  {For those of you who don’t know me I love young adult books!  They’re a guilty pleasure for me.}

Even though it is a young adult book I was still apprehensive about The Boy in the Striped Pajamas because it is set during World War 2.  I hated learning about World War 2 in school and still have pretty much no interest in it, but I’m so glad I read this book.

It started out slow, but it picked up and once it did I didn’t want to put it down.  I finished reading the book with tears in my eyes.  Because I hate spoilers and I promised there won’t be any here that’s all I’ll say!  If you read (or have read this book in the past) and want to talk about it with me I’d love to!  Shoot me a DM on Instagram and we’ll talk!
